I have been using a pair of Rosewill RSV-L4411 cases to run a pair of servers, 1 replicating to the other for backups. Not long ago I had a power supply in one of them go bad, and it seems to have damaged some components when it went.
I have replaced the system board, memory, and some disks, but I think the 1 thing that I did not that I need to is the case (or at a minimum, the hot swap drive housings in the case). After numerous issues with rebuilding my RAID sets, I found that there are some drive slots that just won't work 100% of the time anymore. For now I am running a smaller RAID set and only using the slots that are still good.
In my search for a new case, I have been looking at some options. I don't want to break the bank, and this will be in my basement, right near living space (so noise is a factor too). I've been looking at a newer Rosewill case, RSV-L4412 (basically the same, but adds SAS compatibility, and I do have SAS controllers), or a Norco case (which I will do some fan replacements for noise reduction) like the RPC-4424 & 4416. I see a lot of posts about backplane issues on the Norcos. Is that still a current issue with the latest runs of cases, or is it something they have fixed with newer backplanes?
I am only looking at rack mount cases as I have a decent server rack already partially populated. I don't want tower cases all over the place any more.
I have been searching and reading on & off for weeks on here and other sites. I can't really tell if the Norco case is reliable or not based on some posts. I know Chenbro and SuperMicro are also good, but they are a lot more money, and more noise.
