Alright, it has been many many years since i have dabbled in the website field. Everything has changed and all the simple coding i once knew is all but lost. I have set my fps guns down for a bit to gain the spare time i need to get this website setup and i need some suggestions from any and all.

I'm looking to build a site with two purposes. Informational tech how-to's and family info, but it must be secure as there will be family photos and the like in there. The information part is pretty evident, however i need some info on how to stream news from other sites (this is mostly for myself, sorta creating a personal default web site). For the family part i would like to incorporate a login, and i have absolutely no idea how to do that.

I would like some suggestions on web/auth software that will support templates and such...just whatever would be easiest to learn as well as being FULLY functional so that i may add as i learn without having to switch over to another program only after i just learned the last. I would prefer not to have to code by hand at ALL. Also depending on how things go i might want to add a forum as well. Any info for me starting out would be great. Any other thoughts or suggestion are very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time and knowledge.

I use mamboserver for a few sites. It incorperates a login functionality and you can set it up so only uses that have logged in can see specific news items while everyone can see others. There are a couple of add-ons for creating image galleries.

It definitely takes a little getting used to, but once you do it's quite powerful and will do everything you want.

Well the software looks very intresting, although i dont want to have to use linux. I need to be able to use the software from within xp:p.

Yep, it runs in php and mysql which can easily be installed with a package like wamp.

I don't know that you're going to be able to do what you want without some sort of php/mysql type of functionality.
