Hell is Us

what's good about these type of games is that it's a very small percentage of games that do this...so if you hate it you can just play the other 95% of games and not worry about it...it appeals to a very specific type of gamer...I'm guessing the Souls-like gamer would enjoy this

Ignore my previous post, the game uses incorrect resolution in Borderless so I was playing at low res.

Getting 60-80fps in the starting area, max settings 1080p. No stutters at all, it did pre-compile shaders in the background for a few seconds.
More or less it's about the same performance I get in AC Shadows. Not amazing but it's better than the recommend specs implied.

edit: 5090 is averaging 55fps at 4K max.

Seems very unsmooth even at 1080p. This is gonna need some perf. patches undoubtedly

One thing I notice right off the bat is mouse look feels kinda bad and I haven't even made it to any combat yet. Not a good sign and I've already read a few comments about how the lock on camera feels not ideal as well. I just made it to the first underground area but have to turn it off for a min. We'll see how the fighting goes a little later on.

This doesn't seem to be as demanding as the recommended specs imply, at least on my system. 9800x3D 64GB RAM 4090 and I can play 4k maxed with Balanced DLSS at 100+ fps. The only thing I did was use DLSS Swapper to swap out to the newest DLSS version. I'm a little bit into it after the combat starts. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this game yet. It's feels kinda weird you have to switch to Headphones in the Audio menu to get Atmos surround sound.

Game needs a lot of work. Kinda boring. No jumping or breakable enviroment. Hit a standing halogen light, your sword goes right through it. Hit anything and nothing happens.
I hope they rework this.

Wow, no hit boxes around objects and outcome when hit either through physics or script. Sounds like you will be able to walk through objects, ghost mode. Does not sound like a game that will be ready in 2 months. Do like the older school take in game play. Will download the demo and get a feel for this game.

don't forget, you can walk right through cows also :p. The whole game feels a little slow and unresponsive to me. The dodge roll is like thee slowest and fatest fat roll in the history of dodge rolling. Why do all these games have to feel this way? The camera needs def work and honestly I won't be buying it unless they fix it. But I mean I do like what they are trying to do for the most part. The inventory thingy needs to be sped up also, that shits already getting old

There was an update to the demo for this yesterday but I'm not sure exactly what they did to it. The camera is still terrible. I stopped playing just before you use the apc to go to the next area because I didn't want to play to much of it. The only thing I notice different is you can no longer walk through that cow near the starting area lol

The game keeps getting worse the more we learn about it and experience it.
Seems like generic bargain bin indie junk. They just gave it a catchy design to make it more appealing. Day Before vibes.

The game, or at least the demo aera, is all narrow paths and obvious trail markers. It's like bragging that you don't need a map to find a way around your local mall. The path markers are very heavy handed and even if you stray off the path everything leads back to where you need to be. Definitely not an open world game where the lack of a map and quest markers would make things more complex. I was expecting a Stalker like experience in regards to the map but it feels more like mini Demons Souls like levels.

So the camera is fixed, and that makes all the difference. Not only can you now disable the auto rotation there's also a few more settings that let you control how the camera follows you. There are still some minor annoyances like the hardcoded E key for interact/use -why? It's Nonsense. It needs to be listed in the keybind section and it needs to be configurable. There's really no reason for it not to be. Most likely be picking this up day 1 or at least first week. Hoping it turns out to be the game I want it to be.

4k FSR4 quality, very high across the board, steady 60fps with Aorus 31337 9070xt

I sorta predicted the scores, to myself. I said this is most likely going to go into the 80-85% category, which was where the meta was at earlier this morning. It seems to have slipped a bit to 79% currently. I'm actually gonna hold off on grabbing this at the moment. I really don't see the point in purchasing new games at launch anymore. I actually just picked up Remnant 2 Ultimate Edition yesterday while it was on sale for ~$30. A much better investment :) I'll grab HiU in six months or so after its had some balance and perf patches and is content complete for a similar price. I would assume this is gonna get an xpac, but not necessarily.

Looks like an exercise in tedium. Enemies seem so uninteresting. Reminds me of Banishers where I lost interest about 3-5 hours in.

you might be the only person on [H] that seems to play every PC game...and every game on launch day

Actually not really. Only some big releases. But even then I skip if they are not ready like Snake Eater Delta. Parking it until they improve it.

The Meta seems to indicate this is slipping into the territory of mediocrity. ACG review mentions there's literally no boss fights...how and why? You'd think there would be some down in the dungeons at least. Kinda stupid and given the already limited enemy variety, this seems like it'd get quite monotonous quickly.

It was monotonous just watching a review video. IMO

Steam is calling this a Souls-like and there's no bosses? What?

Seems quite a few split opinions. Feel most are enamored by the world but the gameplay looks really bland after watching multiple videos. For me the enemies feel generic and it’s always the same white enemy in different shapes. Maybe that is part of the lore.

Added to wishlist for a bargain bin trial later.
