Hey guys, I have a question.

I currently have a set of headphones (Sony MDR-CD380s) I use for playing games. I am looking into getting a microphone, because I do not have one. A lot of recommendations in these forums call for people to get microphone/headset combinations. This does not work particularly well for me for a couple of reasons not limited to the fact that I rather like my headphones and there is nothing wrong with them. My questions are as follows:

1. Is there a quality difference between a one-piece combo and separate headphones and a microphone? (other than extra wires)
2. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a standalone microphone?
3. I have seen that USB microphones exist. What's the deal? Are they good? Do they suck?

The only thing USB headphones and microphones have is a very slight convenience factor, and that depends on your setup. They cost more, with a small increase on the cpu load. So just get a mic that fits how you want to use it, really about anything except complete junk will be fine for basic voice usage.

Most comp mics are fine for voice communications though for professional recording...they will suck. I seriously suggest you look at a combination HS/Mic because it will make life soo much easier for gaming etc. There is no chance you will get feedback or interferrence. I use the logitech set that came with UT2004 CE and it is great...just great.
