Yesterday windows 7 displayed a message asking me to back up my data as the a drive is failing. with HD Tune i found out, my 3 years old Samsung 640GB drive is displaying a Raw Read Error. this is the screen shot of the error message. After that one time, i haven't seen that windows message again.

Should I be worried?

No need to worry, just backup your data and get the drive replaced (hopefully via RMA, if still under it's original 3yr warranty). The sooner the better, but it all depends on how important that data is to you. :p The raw read value is different for each manufacturer, but since the status is FAILED, thats one indicator that the drive may fail sooner rather than later.

thanks for the response. unfortunately its warranty period is over. :( but i have already backed up the drive. i guess i will let it run as long as it goes.

You could try a sector by sector test of some kind, like the one HDTune offers, to see if all is green. Also, check/change the SATA cable.
