Hanging after first loading some games

My screen just freezes and nothing responds about a minute or so after Battlefield: Vietnam or Far Cry loads. It only frezzes for 5-10 seconds and doesn't do it any more, but it ALWAYS does it after loading a level (not after loading a saved game). Any ideas? I'm gonna check and see if I've disabled Fast Writing for my AGP when I get home (I think I've already done it, though), just wondering if anyone had any ideas.

The Battlefield Vietnam has the latest patch (don't remember the number, but I just got it last week) and Far Cry is with the 1.3 patch and 61.77 drivers for my 6800GT.
