Getting a monitor for Fathers Day and I'm a bit indecisive. I don't really know much about the tech stuff.

I see prices going down and I think I can get an Acer XB240H for around $250 used or open box. I thought that would be best since it is in my price range and has gsync but I've been reading that having light boost or strobing is better than having gsync.

The Asus VG248QE is even cheaper than $250 brand new so I've been going back and forth. Not sure what would be best.

I have an i7-4790k and a Gigabyte 970 G1. I play mostly shooters and I want performance and as little lag as possible with my setup.

Not sure which is best but with a 970 a think a 1080p TN 144hz is the best option but now which one? Gsync or Light boost?

And you can only use ULMB or Gsync. Can't use both at the same time from what I've read online.

I'd get a gsync and have both options but is it worth the extra money?

It's worth the money, especially if you can get a good open box. You won't be able to run every shooter ever to be released at a consistent 120 or 144 hz, so it's good to be able to float your fps with G-Sync. ULMB will be there for games like CS:GO, etc. if you want maximum motion clarity.
 
Ok thanks everyone. I suppose gsync is the way to go. Now hurry up Father's Day before something new comes out to dissuade me:
