This is getting un-nerving. Now I was reading that Halo 2 is possibly going to be a Christmas 2004 release in the new Game Informer instead of June1, 2004 like stated everywhere else. Halo2 was supposed to be a Christmas 2003 game damnit. I am getting tired of this marketing vaporware crap. Where as with Far Cry nobody heard about it till recently and it is coming out in less than 3 months and already has a demo available and looks sweet. WHAT IS GOING ON!
 
Would you rather have a buggy, crashing game now, missing lots of details? Or wait longer for a full, complete game? They're done when they're done. I can't imagine any company with a fully working game just sitting on it saying "Let's work up the crowd, first!"

Delays are just a part of life with any type of software (speaks a former programmer :))
 
no of course I dont want a buggy game. BUT I want the game dev's to make realistic dates of release instead of pushing it back over and over again. This shouldnt be acceptable.
 
Games take time to develop. It doesn't take one wave of a wand and poof, its made. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. The games been delayed, so what, less bugs are going to show up in the game. A finished game is better then no game.
 
pff Halo2, the same happened to HL2 - which is going to better than halo2.
 
I feel like the blind are leading the blind here. Maybe I am a minority on this subject. YES I KNOW GAMES TAKE TIME! They need to stop saying hey this gaming is coming out xxx date. If you told your boss that you were going to finish something and kept pushing the date back and your excuse was that this was some hard stuff and that he didnt want it to be wrong he would tell you to tell him when it would be done and thats that. Get my drift.
 
i was talking to a programmer from the team on Medal of Honor: Pacific assualt, on the phone. and what he briefly was, that they are having trouble with the game gravity and enviroment. and its using the same engine as Half-Life 2. So thats why Half-life 2 was delayed and fabericated they stolen stuff. maybe it was true. if you ask me, it was all talk. its a race with doom 3 and half 2 engines. both are going to be great games and great engines, for games to come. Dont worry about the game. it will be released when need be.

i have mixed thoughts on both of these games. there was simply too much hype surrounding both of them. I remember reading about doom 3 around a year ago. Back then, the game was going to be amazing. Once it is released I doubt the graphics will be anything special at all.


Have to agree with the poster. Games do take time, but publishers need to hold back on releasing info about release dates unless they are 100% positive.

only half stupid, moh:pa uses the same physics engine made by havok that hl2 also use. the gfx engine for moh:pa is built by EA's Los Angeles team
 
I have my own mantra. I convince myself that none of the games are ever going to be released, then I'm pleasantly surprised when they finally are.

I have had a whole new world of calmness open up for me.

i was half right..this is just what i was told...so basically i was right for the tie in from MOH: pa and HL2.
 
Well heres my hunch....Video CARD companies have close ties with video GAME companies. They could work together if both made a profit. Since $ is thankfully coming in now for ATI, game businesses see this and are dependent on ATI's cards for the reproduction of their programs to the fullest(dx9). So, if the game businesses hold out as a favour to ATI, then ATI can maybe cash in on one more over priced, new technology video card before the actual game release, thus both companies doing each a favour for $.

damn it! i placed my pre-order for halo 2 yesterday cause they said it was coming out on April 1st... i guess it was an early april fools joke :rolleyes:.... a not so funny one at that...

I've known about this game for over a year now.... its not like they came out of the blue or anything.
 
..me thinks that both the valve and id guys spendith too much time with inhouse lan parties "testing" there games fraggen off ... when taxes come around they get to write off all that "testing" time so they dont loose out on payroll stuff ...


..dang ...I wouldnt mind having there jobs....:)

But were they saying hey it is going to be out October 2003 and then it was pushed back to Christmas 2003 and then pushed back to March 2004 like it is supposed to be released and looks like it will be released. Not that I am aware of. THAT is what I am mad about. Game co.'s overhyping their own crap and then delaying it.
 
one thing that you all fail to realize is that the lead dev. for halo 2 was in a very bad car accident, and i don't know how many of you program but it takes time and you have to know what your doing, and obviously you can't just replace a lead devoloper of a vid game, esp a game such as halo 2 which will be amazingly awesome its worth the wait, it will probably be out by the expected time of june 1st, game informer likes to strecth release days out kinda radically

What's this on the bottom of my shoe? Gross... it's thread FUD. Time to clean up.

Halo 2 being pushed back wouldn't suprise me and I expected it. It's better for the publisher to get it out during Christmas. Summer sales are typically abysmal and they'll sell more during Christmas. More than likely it'll be pushed to October which is the peak release period. It also buffers from any Doom3/HL2 releases earlier that year. (Different platforms I know, but there is some bleeding between the PC and XBox.)

Saw someone else post about possible collusion between video card companies and game makers. Not going to happen. Video card makers make more money by supporting all games. Fragmenting the market isn't in their best interest financially. You'll only see optimizations for certain cards and that's it.

Why haven't you heard about Far Cry? Why should you? It's their first major release and they're not in the US. If it's a hit, you can bet the house on the fact that you'll hear plenty of news on Far Cry 2 for the next two years.

Devs don't make release dates: True. I only know of one or two exceptions and that's because they are self-funded and have it written in their contracts. Publishers set dates and release games. Not the developers. Developers tend to open their mouths a bit too often about dates. Publishers can do it too, but seldom do.

ThreeDee- You've got it so wrong. I ran in-house testing and it was work. It's not fun and you've got to treat it seriously. Yeah, it's playing video games but it truly sucks at times. I promise you that Valve and id aren't just kicking back and giggling during a LAN test. If you only knew how much paperwork is involved.

Last point: It's not the game companies so much as the gamers. You need to educate yourself and learn not to get hyped. See a release date? Add six months. See an announcement about a new game being developed to be out next year? Laugh and add a year. It takes at least two years to build a game from scratch and about 18 months to get one going from a pre-built engine. Expansion packs take 9 months to a year to crank out.

Everyone cut n' paste that last paragraph and print it out. Tape it next to your monitor. It'll save you a lot of grief later on when another delay is announced.
