I just bought this board to replace my P35 that just died. I had my Q6600 (9, 333, 2.4 @ 3ghz). I had that 800mhz Crucial stuff in it that required 2.0v instead of the standard 1.8v.

I have two questions, would that slight overclock cause the motherboard to die? I was thinking that I should get some 800mhz RAM that works at 1.8v.

If I do need to get different RAM would it be worth it to get faster memory now that the prices have come down? My current RAM is 4-4-4-12. I would still like to be at 3ghz with the Q6600.
 
No, that slight overclock wouldn't hurt a motherboard like that. If you get faster memory like 1066MHz, you're likely going to need to increase the voltage anyway and manually set the memory to 1066MHz. As for faster steppings, 4-4-4-12 is already pretty good.
 
All you need to run at 3GHz is DDR2-667 RAM, so DDR2-800 will be fine. If you like, you can go for a higher-end set of DDR2-1000 or 1066 RAM since it would only be a little more expensive, but it isn't needed.
 
So you don't think the settings that I listed contributed to the untimely death of my other motherboard? It ran at those settings for about a year, then Thursday it decided it was time.

I doubt it. It was most likely a random fluke. I've run much heavier overclocks for much longer periods than that before with no issues.
 
My Kingston RAM ran at a default of 1.8v but it was advertised at 2.1v. I went into the BIOS and changed it and I have had no issues with it so far. I have an EP45-UD3R.
