I'm having a difficult time trying to setup my sister's computer on my home network.
We have a Dlink 624 wireless router.
I have a windows 98 laptop connecting with with a 802.11g card perfectly.
This one computer is frustrating the crap out of me though.
She has windows xp, sp2 installed. There was just a 802.11b card in there before, but everything I tried didn't work so I threw in a brand new msi 802.11g card which I can't get to work now either...
I would setup the ssid and wep key etc, but not be able to get the connection!
I would see full green bars when trying to connect with windows, but would just hang upon "Waiting for network". I don't have ANY filters for mac addys or anything, just open WEP.
I would try connecting with the msi program too, but trying to connect to the ssid listed just closed the window with nothing changing.
So I removed SP2 thinking maybe its screwing things up (what a bit of googling prompted me to do) and still no go. This is really bugging the hell out of me. How come windows 98 was so easy to setup? ssid, wep, bam connected all green. This is all wack...
I would just assume fix up her computer with a fresh install, likely windows 2000, but thats the worst path with all the b*tching I'll get.
I'm really stuck on what I can do. I'm flabbergasted as to why I can type in the right info on another computer and it works but on XP it's so damn finicky. Please tell me a noob mistake I missed!! There must be something....
