First true case mod

Hey just wanted to post my 1st true case mod. The case is from my brother's old pc he got many years ago. Probably around 5 years ago at leats. Anyway I thought I would start this little project because I was impressed by all the other mods out there. I got a lot if inspiration from those who posted mods of their own. So anyway enough chit chat and here we go. Any and all comments, suggestions and positive criticism are welcome! :)

Here you'll see that I have cut out a 120mm blow hole and 120mm front fan intake. The plan for the intake is add a honey comb grill on the front for effect. Also just a note that the intake holes do actually line up. It's just the angle that the picture was taken shows otherwise. As for an exhaust at the back, I'm not sure what to do. Unfortunately as you can see, the back of the case does not allow for another 120mm fan, but I don't think it will be necessary. As for the paint job, I'm thinking of going with a candy apple green interior with a sky blue exterior and candy appple flames. Anyway let me know what you all think. Like I said, any comments welcomed!

I used to have the exact same case. See that little indent on the front bezel? I took a saw and cut it off flush with the rest of the front, and drilled out two holes for eyes, clipped out the grill on the fan mount and stuck a blue l.e.d. 80mm fan in it. Instant smilie face mod :)


That case has mad potential, it'll be fun to see what you come up with next.
 
Sorry if I'm going slow with this project. Just that I'm limited on resources and can only do a little bit at a time. But I assure you I will not take too long to complete this new project of mine.

Here is a little update on what I've done so far. I've got the top popped of and I'll soon have the case ready for paint. Just waiting for next paycheque to buy a drill to drill the scew holes to mount the fans, painting supplies and a riveter to rivet the top back on. :)

Here are some pics of the initial sanding phase of the project. Using some 40 grit to remove the old paint. Plus I got some mixed wet or dry sandpaper ranging from 320 grit to 1000 grit.

Here I smooth the surface with some 320 grit. Ya best place to do this if you live in an apartment is in the tub. Plenty of water and you'll keep the mess in one spot. :)

Change in plans. I've got a new idea on the paint job. While I was at Canadian Tire I saw that special colour changing paint.

What do you guys think of painting front of the case in solid colour changing paint and the rest of the case that sparkly silver? Then paint some flames on the top and side panels using same colour changing paint. Here is a litte drawing of what I mean. Just gotta figure out what colour to use for the pin stripe. Any suggestions?

That looks good. I manage an autoparts store and we just got some new pinstriping paint that glows in the dark, the effect lasts around 8 hours. Currently I've only seen it in blue though.
 
nice work so far, you dont have to take everything down to bare metal. your pretty much just trying to remove andy texture.
 
Uh oh, you shouldn't have taken it down to bare metal and made such large gashes. Since you've done that now, I highly suggest dishing out the money for an Orb sander and polishing it to make it shiney and no gashes. Cause when you paint this case, it will have gashes in the paint, I know this cause I did it to the side panel of my sisters case.
 
Naw it's no biggie. I'm going to be using a primer scratch filler on the 1st coat and doing several coats before I'm done with the final product. Plus I haven't finished with the sanding yet. Just got rid of the old paint. Besides the cuts look worse than they really are. The metal is really smooth to the touch and you can't feel any of the scratches.
