I am going to buy a 36 gb raptor to go with the one i already have and want to setup a raid on the k8n neo. i have never done raid before, and was curious if someone could tell me how to do it. or point me to somewhere that would tell me how to do it from start to finish, operating system install etc.

well each motherboard is different, for mine i have to hit f6 during boot up.. then i set it up by going to raid 0 (array) or raid 1(mirrir) then i hit apply and save.. read your manual it will be in there, if you don't have the manual go online and look at the website (maker of ur mobo website)

raid 0 writes half to each drive (speed 2x faster in theory)
raid 1 writes same to both (data back up)


u need 2 identical hard drives

I don't want to rain on your RAID parade but if you haven't already done so you might want to read this RAID-0/Raptor performance review on anandtech

and check out this [H] thread which comments on the anandtech review and the experiences/opinions of other [H] 'ers
 
Yea, it really depend with raid card or MB you have. I.e. I have adaptec 1200A, on mine, I press CTRL and H with that it takes me to RAID card BIOS,so from there you have all the options (raid0,raid1,raid1/0,etc). Every mft has a different ways of setup. Look at manual :D
 
Crafty is right, according the puter Gawds at anandtech its pretty much a wash. I ran a raid setup on my Shuttle AK35GT-R for almost a year, went back to conventional setup when one of the drives died(both maxtor 40GB ATA133s) and didnt notice much of a difference. But the raptors kick major ass. 10000 rpm and a 8mb cache...........niceeeeeeee

Thanks for all the info. i didnt know that there is really no point to setting the raid up. so ill save the money and get something besides the extra raptor.
