This needs to be moved to something like the Gen. Hardware section, but aside from that...

Looks like a pretty solid AMD system. The only things I would recommend is possibly instead of spending 55 on a cdrw/ dvd rom combo you could spend an extra ~35 - 40 and get a decent 8x DVD RW drive, gives you the option for burning Dvds if you ever need to down the road.

What type of case/PSU are you looking at? For a mid-tower I'd recommend either Antec Sonata (very quiet and decent case) or a Lian Li PC60 series (popular) . Of course there are also very basic cases if you don't want anything fancy, and for a PSU you shouldn't need anything bigger than 350W, unless you plan on adding more hardware later. Don't forget to add your OS into your total cost, unless you have an *extra* copy. And monitor is also another somewhat large cost, especially if you're looking at LCD's. I got one and am very happy with it, but twas expensive.

two things first. where are you getting kingston ram for 72$!! and if your comp is going to be for gaming id spend 30$ and the logitech mx500 mouse with a decent mousepad. (icemat, xtrac pro hs, steelpad 4d(recommended). and i hope your not getting all that processing power to play counter strike, cuase youd be killing a ant with a bazooka. gl

Is the 3000+ actually going to be worth the $30 or so more than the 2800+?

Can you provide some details about that Kingston RAM? It does not sound like you are getting HyperX, since it is only $72 per 512 DIMM. I cannot understand why you would put so much money into a high class (monocle and all) CPU/MoBo combination and then scrimp on the RAM. Likewise, a nice mouse makes all the difference in the world. :)

Ditch the DVD-ROM drive and get yourself a nice and cheap NEC-2500A. It is a great DVD+-RW drive that can be had for under $80. Make sure you install the firmware update that allows it to burn DL disks.
Firmware Info/Review

I assume you like your choice of speakers. Diffferent people have different opinions on what is "good enough" when it comes to sound. :)

Instead of spending $60 on some budget 2.1 speakers, may I suggest applying that money toward some high quality headphones? If you're going to be gaming with the box, esp shooters, I think that you'll get much better positioning cues from a set of cans than you would a 2.1 setup. At least that's what I found on my setup when I was running in 2.1 mode. Besides, headphones won't annoy the neighbors or spouse. And when choosing headphones, hit the stores so you can try them on first - bring your own music and make sure they're comfy.

And to echo what the other folks said, do NOT skimp on the mouse on a gaming setup.

I don't see a heatsink listed there... and I don't believe OEM Processors come with heatsinks

You could also look at a better mouse, like a Logitech MX510.

see i knew i had forgotten something..
i've been working on this, and updating every so often, so some of the figures might be off on the prices. For instance the ram is now 90.00 for 512 from kingston..., so and speakers, i wasn't planning on getting any for my use(might have the parents buy those) since i don't use them because i wear headphones anyways. As for HD~~~
i noticed there have been some good sale prices for 120 and just other 80gb hd's so i might have to look into that. Mouse/keyboard, i was putting that optional since i could just use the ones from here that work fine. Also, the OS can't i just use the cd + key that came with this computer and have both running Windows XP home(well my dad has an xtra cd+key of pro...) so i will use pro for this comp. I won't be buying this system until late july early august so i just wanted to know if i should wait any longer than that to buy anything.

thanks for advice really appreciated :D
