which firewalls are good? i used to use zone alarm but it looks like they no longer offer a free version of it, so now im looking for alternatives
 
yes there is a free version of ZA, or you can also try the good old Sygate, both are my favorites :D

Spend the money and get a hardware firewall. Don't suck up CPU/RAM on a local firewall. Get AV and anti-spam along with a hardware firewall and you'll be set.

Note: get a hardware firewall that's got Stateful Inspection built into it. Don't let them fool you when they say "NAT is a firewall". It's not.
