As linked to on the front page. Apple finally is catering to the "least common denominator". Think of the modding possibilites too.

How many new Mac users do you guys think this will create? With a price competitive Mac offering, I may add one to my collection, if they add a superdrive option. Something that cheap with the iDVD and iMovie combo would be a boon for home video makers.

Sure it's only going to be a G4, but that's plenty fast for most people.

yeah an Apple SFF even with a 1.2ghz g4 would be very cool... and if it comes in at $500... very doable for most people thinking of 'switching'

i find it amazing that apple can engineer everything so perfectly that each update gets them more switchers after every revision. the ONLY thing the have to do is run a campaign that informs people you can put your existing cds onto itunes and that you are NOT required to use the itunes music store. i talk to so many people and they ask me about my ipod, the first question is "how much did all that music cost you?" and everytime i just explain to them you just import your cds into the itunes SOFTWARE, not the music store and that you have to get all of your music from there. ahhhh. that definately got some anger off my back :)

A SFF headless Mac... can you say "Uber-HTPC" chassis? I'd get a couple. Talk about the ultimate internet surfer boxen for the relatives who know nothing about computers. I bet these would give the MS WebTV boxes a good run for their money. We can only hope it's not a rumor.

Speaking of rumors: remember that one a while back where Apple was going to bring out a home-appliance to tie all our A/V systems together? Think this is related? Same box maybe? Just a thought....
 
i saw this rumor and immediately thought of the [H] faithful. how often is there a "i really want to try out OS X, but don't have the coin to fully jump in" thread.

were this to happen, it would be a godsend to the x86 folk out there who already have the monitors and accessories.

and 1.25ghz g4 is nothing to really scoff at. i'm still hacking away with 700mhz of g3 fury. panther was a huge step up and i think tiger will be even more. i don't really photoshop anything, i watch movies and surf the web. this machine is perfect for me. now to have nearly twice the clock and nearly all the software capabilities of the dual g5s for $500? i think they're on to something here.

just think of this thing as mac training wheels. i think this thing will sell like hotcakes. especially with all the virus/spyware hype that has been surrounding windows in the last year.
 
yeah it'll sell if apple ships asap through all channels like the ipod photo, and doesnt just not do anything for a long time like the g5s...

Seems like Apple is doing some "negative confirmation" by suing sites reporting it.

I'll definately pick up one of these guys, maybe two if they do come out at that price point.
 
apple just sued based over these, and the iWork office suite.

imagine if the conference next week brough a headless sff imac, an iwork mini office suite, AND a powerbook revision.

i don't know the wisdom of the iWork jobbie. one of the strongest arguments for people to switch is that Mac has M$ office just like PCs do.

oh and where is this front page? i'm still a little new here.
 
The relationship between Apple and MS is shacky, I don't blame them for wanting to dump Office (for such a long time now) for something better.

I will be one of these people. For $500, I would add it in on a KVM and play with it.
 
the fact that Apple sued Think Secret just made my day. I'm sure of it now.

I have a dual 1.8 G5, and I'll still buy one just to play around with. I juts hope it does not look like a little white chiclet. :D

Slot loading DVD drive? It says Media Centre but no tv tuner I see, judging by the back I'd say it hooks up to your TV the same way the iBooks do. Incredibly interesting possibalities. :)

You can generally use your cell-phone to connect to the Intarweb.
