Something is crashing/stalling my PC overnight. I find the monitor blank with no signal comming from the graphics card, and I am unable to rouse it. Also the fan on the card is silent when it should be going full pelt from crunching. There have been no other faults or crashes. I assume it is a graphics card issue. Firstly, what can I do to pin down the cause? (ATI 5970)
 
Anything in the event logs?

does it do this if you disable power saver?
 
Open your taskbar and do a search for Event Viewer

under there click on Applications (see if there are any errors or criticals)

and also under System
 
hrm, I thought this was going to be one of those "relationship" threads put in the wrong forum

but as said, all that stuff is in event viewer
 
This might be a problem between your hard drive and power saving/hibernation on your PC.

Have you windows 7?

try this, leave the control panel or the catalyst control centre or some application open on the desktop overnight, make sure whatever you use is open on the desktop and not minimised. Then see if your computer responds the following morning.
 
There are logs and they are related to the graphics card. However none are marked as critical and it doesn't look like they have occurred prior to the hangs.
