I'm helping a friend build a new 64 bit system this weekend and with windows 64bit available pretty much any day now I was wondering what popular games have 64 bit versions.. I know far cry was supposed to have something available.. Was it ever released? If so, how do you upgrade?

Thanks in advance..

Far Cry
Unreal Tournament 2004
Chronicles of Riddick
Shadow Ops: Red Mercury

The last two are already available, Far Cry is running at WinHEC (from what I hear) and who knows about UT.

There were also rumors of a HL2 64-bit version, but no confirmation.

Say I already own Far Cry and UT2004, so I have to buy it again to get the 64-bit version? Does anyone know?

I remember Epic saying UT64 would be free, but that was a while ago.

Doesn't America's Army have a 64 bit version?

I got the Far Cry 64-bit edition when I bought my Athlon 64 and motherboard.

Does that include a 64-bit binary though, or is it just the version they sold with the A64s?

Yes i think AA does have a 64bit version, or at least they had been testing it out for a while with the Linux systems I think. But they were waiting on windows 64 to test it there. Not sure where you could get a copy though.

That Far Cry you get with A64 is just the ordinary 32-bit version everybody else is playing :).

There is coming a 64-bit optimized version with some new features from the Xbox Instincts from what I have heard though. And from all I have heard totally free of charge :).

Riddick as mentioned has a 64-bit optimized version though haven´t tried it yet.

Me am waiting for the Far Cry 64 too. I stopped playing Far Cry half way through to wait for it and the shader model 3 patch :D. Not the speed patch but the one that would have dynamic shadows and yadayada :D

I wouldn't think it's a good idea to switch to 64-bit just yet. I'd wait until compatibility matures (hardware and software). I probably won't upgrade for another year or so...

I believe that when you trade in your license for 64-bit, you cannot go back to 32. So you had better be certain you want to take the risk and deal with all the headaches.

That was sucky sucky. Now XP 64 does everything I ask for currently but I sure would like the option to go back. Well I have Norton I think I will just make a ghost copy of my XP 32 installation I guess however if I am going to change mainboard there is a good chance I am screwed anyway :(.

Currently I have one Raptor with XP 32 which I never use and one with X64 beta :)

FarCry64 will be a free download(basically a patch) and it's coming soon. But when ubisoft says soon, it can mean two months to a year.

Yeah... thats soo true :p

Well Crytek beaten both Doom 3 and Half Life 2 so they are kind of quick. Also with MS delaying X64 until Intel is ready they may have had it ready for months really.

Don;t hold your breath on the 64 bit farcry, ubi cant keep promises, they ditched a few features promised in the 1.3 patched and also stated the 64 bit version would be ready in oct 04, then dec 04...now they havent said a word...hoping we have forgotten, but honestly, 64 bit gpu drivers are so much garbage right now, it we almost be pointless to try it in 64 bits.....buy a 64 bit machine for speed, not for actual 64bit functionality....not just yet at leats.

I'm running x64 right now and I have to say it's great so far. There aren't any driver issues so far (I'm about to install Creative's betas now). I've been running all of those games great so far but can't wait for the 64 versions.

Here is the site about the Farcry 64

So are there any noticable differences playing on Win64. I have it downloaded, but didnt know if it was worth the time to install. :(

I've noticed a faster system overall. I've noticed my boot times are faster, and Windows just runs smoother. Games run smooth for me and I haven't had a crash yet. I'm actually getting better FPS in Source and Doom III compared to the 32 edition.

how can i get a coppy of win xp64? i have an athlon 64 currently and i wanna actauly start taking advantage of my chip

I have a 64 set-up and I see no difference besides the lack of driver at this point.

If you have win xp pro you can order the disk from Microsoft. It cost 12$ shipping I think. Now remember when installing X64 from it you can´t install XP 32 anymore from what I understand.
