I am debating whether I made the right decision with my monitor purchase. I went ahead and got three 22" Dell s-IPS displays (in my sig) for an nVidia 2D surround experience.

I am wondering now if I made the right decision. I played some World of Warcraft, some Dirt 3, some Saints Row: The Third in nVidia surround and it's phenomenal.

Then I loaded up some First Person Shooters (Battlefield 3, Crysis 3) and it's a different story. I feel like I'm so "focused in" on the center monitor for aiming, that the other monitors barely effect my experience.

For those with 27"-30" IPS displays, are they as impressive for gaming as an eyefinity/surround setup? I really like immersion for my games, but I think I made the wrong decision.

Also; does anyone know Amazon's return policy for monitors now that I've opened them and set them up? I can clearly see the policy for stuff thats damaged/defective. I can't seem to find out what happens if I just don't like them.
 
Oh boy.

I remember when I got three Dell U2211H monitors.
Eyefinity was cool for a week or two, but I regretted selling my 3007WFP-HC for it.

Sold those monitors and went to a U2711 and now I have a Catleap, which is more responsive.
Because Catleaps are more affordable, I will buy two more for Nv Surround. Or I may buy a Leonidas 30" ;).

Try to get the biggest center monitor you can afford and build around it.
The same philosophy applies to GPUs/CPUs.

24" or bigger for Eyefinity/Surround.
And Yes, in FPS the side monitors are distracting, but in everything else they're awesome.

I've been eyeing the Catleaps on eBay, but at $380, I feel like I can do better just driving to Micro Center for a warrantied Auria 27" for $20 more. Pretty much nailed my opinions, and confirmed my decision to return the Dell's. I am at the week-in mark, the pure novelty has worn off, it's a distraction in a lot of the games I play, and 5670x1080 is insanely taxing on my setup.

I move around a lot in BF, so when BFBFC2 was going, the side monitor images were rocking around without a purpose.
When aiming, something would catch my attention in the other monitor, throwing off my focus.
In racing games, Eyefinity was a dream. Seeing corners coming up in the distance greatly improved my lap times.

It comes down to what games you play.
Try portrait mode before you send them back though.
 
I don't play too much anymore, but i remember the only thing i didn't like about playing counterstrike was that i couldn't see anything from the corner of my eyes. I tried counterstrike a little bit in a 3-monitor setup and really like it, but I never played for extended periods of time.
 
I have 3 x 23" 1080P monitors, and have used them in eyefinity a lot. I see some people that put all the monitors flat, and others who angle the sides. I've always had the sides angled, and think that the right way to use surround, since the side monitors are supposed to be (in my opinion) for peripheral vision. In an FPS I don't think you should be turning and looking at side monitors, unless you're at a stand still/hiding, and looking for targets or whatever. In other words you should just be mainly looking at your center monitor.

Again, this is just my opinion.

edit: I been thinking of picking up a 27", but not sure if I will, or how, if at all I could use it with 2 other 23" side monitors.
 
My thought about surround gaming is that the other monitors are used as prepherial vision. Such as shooters, it's a nice way to glance right and turn in response.
 
I recently switched from 3x1080@120Hz to a center 1440p at 120Hz flanked by two of the 1080s.

On the whole for productivity, the big screen has been better. For gaming, I adjusted pretty quickly to not having the extra periphery, but it was nice when I had it. The advantages were small, but real.

If you're getting a good experience with what you've got, then don't make the change. You'll miss it. It's why I ended up keeping two of my others. The extra real estate is hard to give up.

A 30" is awesome, and consumes most of your field of view, but it's expensive. More than three 1080p monitors. It is a little easier on your video cards.
