Ok so I got myself an External Iomega 250GB hard drive. I have done Carbon Copy from my Internal Intel Macmini hard drive.

But what I wanted to do was put a new, clean install or an archive & install on the External Hdd.

When I put the Tiger Install disc in I am given the 2 drives to choose from, Internal & external, but when I choose the external I get an error message ‘Cannot boot from this drive’.
I am using the external hdd now but only because I Carbon Copied it.

So my question is – How do I put a clean install on the 250Gb external Hdd?
I am using Firewire 400. My Macmini is the INTEL Core Duo with 2Mb of memory

Cheers

As far as I know, in order to put a clean install on an external drive (one that it complains it can't boot from), you have to first build it on an internal drive and then CCC it to the external one.

I believe in order to accomplish what you want, your external drive must be formatted in HFS+journaled. You cannot boot OS X off a FAT32 (or NTFS for that matter) formatted drive.

formating it in HFS+ is a most before you install, what you could do is make different partions in disk utility if you want to use with a PC
