I have 8gb of Corsair DDR3 1600mhz in my computer, Asus M4A87TD board with all 4 slots occupied with 2gb sticks, Phenom II 965 processor, I started goofing around today overclocking it, and I noticed that before when I had everything on Auto settings that the memory was only running at 1333mhz.

With the Auto settings, shouldn't it be running at 1600mhz? Or do I need to set it manually to run at 1600mhz, I did, and it seemed to run fine. So no worries there. It's just odd that on the SPD tab of CPU-Z it says for max bandwith "PC3-10700H (667Mhz)", which to me, sounds like the max bandwith would be 1333mhz, instead of the 1600mhz I had purchased.

Thoughts anyone?

The auto-detect limit of DDR3-1333 by JEDEC SPD is actually due to the official limits of today's CPUs. None of the current CPUs from either Intel or AMD officially support JEDEC memory faster than DDR3-1333. Therefore, you either need to set the speed and timings manually or use the XMP or BEMP profile if you want the full advertised 1600 speed out of the memory modules.
 
I figured it was something like that, It's been several years since I built a new computer and several years since I've overclocked so I wasn't sure what exactly was going on.
 
Where can I find a list of motherboards that support BEMP? I have a ASUS Crosshair III motherboard and OCZ black edition memory, but my memory did not automatically default to 1600 mhz, and when I set it manually it sails along fine for a few weeks and then one day when I start the computer it wont post and will say "overclocking failed" . This has happened three or four times.

That could be the limitation of the CPU in your particular system. Current AMD processors do not fully utilize BEMP.
