Ok, I have got an external HDD enclosure. Right now it is fitted with a 250gb samsung disk (IDE). It's an USB one with a built in card reader. The Power supply reads 5V-2A and 12V-2A.

What i have been thinking is the following:

What if i were to connect 2 HDDs to that enclosure? One set as master and one set as slave. I am thinking, that in theory this should work, The only problem being: power consumption. Are 2 HDDs too much for this PSU or for the circuitery?

Please reply if you've got an answer, as I'm away from my measuring tools and need to know, cause i could buy a 160g drive for 25$.
 
ive tried this before
normally the IDE controller on external drives are only rigged to work for 1 drive
so you can put splitters on the PWR and a 2 connector IDE cable, but the controller isnt going to recognize the slave drive

and if its sATA then thats kinda pointless b/c they dont daisy chain...
or rather that i dont know of any sATA cables that have more than 2 connectors on them since they work in 'serial' rather than 'parallel'
