If I wanted a handheld emulator that could have good performance and decent accuracy with my DS and Wii backups what would be my best bet?

What kind of handheld are we talking about? For Wii there is a native Android build of Dolphin that has the same accuracy as the x86 build for Windows and Linux. There is a beta for iOS, but I don't know how accurate that one is. For DS there is melonDS, and for 3DS there is Lime3DS.

I have modern devices that run iOS and android but they are touchscreen only. I was thinking more like something that has all the buttons and triggers etc. I’m guessing it would likely run on android. I know a steam deck can do it, but I wasn’t looking to go that full out.

Probably something like a retropocket or competitor, but there are lots of versions and clones etc that very greatly in price.

I’m not so lazy that I can’t do my own research which I have to a small extent, but I really want to hear a [H] opinion.

Thanks!

The problem with both DS and Wii is that they are very difficult to properly control via emulation due to their unique input methods. They are easily to emulate otherwise.

Honestly, if you want to play DS games just get a 3DS. The 3DS itself is one of the best portable systems of all time since you can play GBA/DS/3DS games all natively via roms. The 3DS is also powerful enough to emulate every console up to the 16-bit era. Basically, what i'm trying to say here is buy a 3DS over a handheld emulation device. You'll need to buy flashcard for it as well as this will allow you to both hack the 3DS to play 3DS roms, and of course play DS roms in DS native mode.

For Wii, i'd recommend getting a WiiU before the WiiU gets too expensive. (No one bought the WiiU, and they are actually getting harder to find) The WiiU will give you full Wii support, and of course allow you to play WiiU games. Additionally, the WiiU's Wii mode is hacked the exact same way as the Wii so you can easily play both Gamecube and Wii ROM's on the WiiU natively. WiiU also got some solid remasters of both Gamecube and Wii gmes on it that are superior in every way to the original.

Trying to play any of these systems on a 'handheld emulator' is just going to be miserable since you won't have the proper input method and with DS/3DS you'll have issues not having the second screen.

This makes total sense. I ended up getting a DSi to mess with first. Like 1/4th price of a guaranteed good 3DS.

Thanks!

I'm looking to buy a DS of sorts just to play jump ultimate superstars again. Such a shame they didn't keep those game going somehow on the newer gens

I recommend just buying a new 3DS/xl while you still can. The prices on them are only going to get higher as time goes on, and it's the best way to play pretty much every game going back to GBA natively. DS/3DS in particular for obvious reasons. You can save some money if you don't want to get a 'new' model though and just want something with all the other compatibility anyways.
