First off, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, couldn't decide wether to put it in the audio forum or here. If it's in the wrong place please move it. Okay, I finally have had some time to play with my comp and new 6800gt :) When I first got it I couldn't get the EAX sound to work in Farcry. I thought it was just a problem w/ farcry. I just installed battlefield vietnam (and the latest patch 1.1 I believe) and when I click on eax or eax 2 under the sound options it pops up and says "error error changing sound provider" or something along those lines. Some eax games like ut2k4 work fine. Oh btw, I have the latest updates for the sound card from Creatives site. Should I reinstall sound drivers, are theese known game issues? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Try reinstalling or updating the drivers. There is a problem when updating my soundcard drivers though, they don't update right, I have to manually install them (not run the setup.exe creative made) through the device driver. Otherwise they show up as the old ones. When I install htem from safe mode, they don't recognize the soundcard. Creative really does suck.

I have some weird problem with EAX too.. It didnt work for some game as for an instant, the latest Splinter Cell. The background sound is working but voices from conversation didnt come out at all..

Weird huh... :(

yea sometimes my sound with the audigy 2 ZS is inconsistent or it drops out in certain places and picks up again. gotta hand it to creative for its amazing drivers..
btw what is your FT acct and realm? FT is like the only game i play =)

If you have sound problems, and can alter the # of channels used, then turn the channels down when using EAX, such as, if it's at 64 channels turn it down to 56, if it shows as at 56 then try 48, etc. It's helped a few other people I know of.

EAX has rarely, if ever, worked in any game I have played. It NEVER worked in farcry. I had to turn off all environmental sound and just use plain stereo to get any sound to come out at all. I turns itself off in cs. I usually just turn off EAX in most games in order to avoid problems.

After messing with some settings in the control pannel I was able to get it to work. In the control panel I had it set to surround speakers and when I set it to 5.1 (to match the creative settings) it worked. However, EAX is pretty worthless it doesn't really make it sound much better. Anyways thanks for all the sugestions guys!

EAX, while not the best way to do it (ode to Aureal), is not worthless at all. For what it is, it works very well, and with a good output setup (either good cans or good speakers that are well place), it can make games sound incredible. Just keep trying, I guess it doesn't work perfectly out of the box for everyone (I've never had a problem with it :/).

Not sure this carries with all games, but in Thief 3, if you have EAX turned on in the EAX control panel in windows, it will not work in the game when you turn on the EAX controls in the game's menus.

EAX works in all of them for me...all I do is go to the control panel and turn off Effects or (No Effects). This way its not tweaking it to sound like techno or w/e.

I had this same problem, although I don't know if it's really a problem or the way it works. But it seemed that the windows EAX enhancement woudl cancel out the sound for my games if they ran EAX. hahah
