That would be one way to implode AMD faster. Sell big fat expensive dies downmarket for the low price of duals. Do you really think that is the way to reverse multi-hundred million dollar losses? It isn't.
So what you suggest they sell a hotter, slower, more expensive product instead? Dual-core vs dual-core isnt exactly a winning strategy for them at this time. Am I realistically expecting amd to cut out dual-core at this point in time? Of course not. But it probably would have served them better to have changed their marketing strategy to have pitted dual vs single, tri vs dual, and quad vs quad. At least then they'd have a valid argument for price vs performance b/c as it stands now they dont.
AMD needs to sell smaller dies for higher prices, not larger dies for lower prices.
No insult, but how exactly do you expect them to magically pull out a marketing plan for smaller die, higher prices? Theres nothing they can do about the die size. Theres nothing they can do about the current generation cpu ipc. These two things are set in stone until a die shrink and a new generation of cpu. They can wish for a die shrink all they want, its not just going to "poof" appear magically out of thin air. Even if they could then what? Now they can double the number of crummy price/performance cpu's that they can currently make?
