Say i've got a bunch of movie clips (.avis, whatever). And I want to make a DVD out of them, with a nice menu, proper chaptering, etc. What can I use?

Latest version of Nero did pretty well for a test I did recently. It's a lot deeper than I would have expected it to be. Expect to spend a little time with it to get it all right.

Can't help past that. Nero is all I own.

Nero blows. Avoid it if possible.

For DVD Authoring, stick to Pegasys software.

TMPGEnc Xpress & TMPGEnc DVD Author will let you convert your avi & mpgs to DVD.

i'm not only looking to convert the AVIs to DVD, but also build a menu and stuff for selecting the various tracks.

As Vile said you can use TMPGEnc DVD Author. This program lets you create submenus, titles and break your movie up into chapters. I use version 1.6 on videos that I download off my camcorder and am very happy with it.
