Dualcore move need advice

my gf wants to get dualcore so she copy her movies to her pc... she doesnt have much time between her work and her free time... so dualcore would help alittle

i was tellin her to lean towards the cheaper intel dual cores...the extent of her gaming is the Sim 2

the cheapest AMD dualcore is the 3800+ which is about 300(rough estimate) the cheapest Intel is 130...the 805 which is about 130...now with that and a new board would be less than 200...

i know AMD dual's are far superior..but for basic internet surfing...and sometimes gaming(sims 2) would the intel be the better choice? at least in this situation...

oops forget, will be keeping them at stock..no overclockign for this setup


or is the 820 or 930 a better choice???

At stock the amd will be much faster. Comparatively the intel will be like two 2.66ghz intels, and the AMD will be like two 3.2ghz intels (probably better considering the intel only has 533fsb). The intel isnt worth it at all unless you overclock it. Also, do you have any starting pieces? the AMD will look better price wise if you already have some DDR1 and an AGP card.

but i say go get a used amd x2 3800


i know someone who got one for 210.00

most nf3 boards have AGP and some of the ULI boards, like mine, have both.

There's a deal at outpost.com for a 805 P-D and a ECS mATX ATI chipset board for $149. I bought one just to play around with. I've heard it OC's a little bit, but haven't tested myself (just ordered today). Might be worth looking into.

I just bit on that one last night...I figure that I can always use it as a farmer or DVD encoder if the board doesn't OC too well (I've heard everything from no OCing options to people getting up to 3.4-3.5Ghz with the combo).
