Few months back I bought an evga 8800GTX AC3 KO. Plugged it into my evga 680i SLI motherboard (122-CK-NF68-A1) and everything seemed to be fine at first. However, occasionally I would experience crashes, mostly when I would play something that would stress the card a lot. Such as HL2 with everything on. Picture would just stop and sound would loop in the background, sometimes could close the app, and then would need to do a reboot still, because not even the sample nvidia rotating logo in the control panel would show up correctly anymore.
Anyway, after playing around with the settings, I found that lowering from the factory OC speed of 626 mhz to 618 would stop these crashes. Now this worked well till the other day when I installed the latest drivers where if I set anything but the default 626 clock it tells me that "GPU clock speed failed" and then of course crashes follow.
Tried removing all Nvidia drivers, including chipset, then reinstalling them all, still didn't help, so I reverted back to the previous drivers I was using. However, these old drivers crash with blue screen in the new EVE expansion, so I would like to upgrade somehow.
Anybody got any wise words on this? Any way to hardcode in the card bios to boot with different default clock speed? That would be a good solution I guess, but I'll take a software solution too. Sadly, I haven't had much time lately to keep up to date on every utility that's out there, so please share the wisdom even if it's trivial to you.
