I need to clone a 300gb drive over to a 250gb SSD. Is there any free software that can do this? I have a double drive dock I can use for the process. It has a duplicator but only works if the new drive is larger or same size.
 
What brand is the drive?

If you have access to it, acronis true image will do what you are asking.

Paragon will also do it easily.

Clonezilla on the other hand while completely free, won't go from large disk to small disk easily without some fudging. Not saying you can't do it, but it definitely takes a little more knowhow.
 
I've used Paragon several times with no issues, including going from large to smaller.
 
EaseUS Todo Free. Easy to use interface. You can easily resize the partitions.
 
Another vote for Macrium Reflect.I've used it to clone drives for home use only.
 
Just resize the volume on the larger drive to 249G or less, then use Clonezilla as suggested. Easy peezy.
 
I have used EaseUS backup for years, my experience is its very stable and works.
