It took me a bit to get into the game, but I'm enjoying it now. After you beat the spider boss the enemies start coming faster and in greater numbers. If you're not there yet then just wait. If you don't start getting into it at that point I don't think you're going to.

when i was little, i used to watch my father play doom and wolfenstein 3d non-stop...
i would hide behind his chair, because those mean looking monsters are attacking my dad, hoping my father would survive through
then i played rtcw just for my father, knowing he loves these kind of games
now im going to get my hands on doom3, just for my father... he's currently in the hospital, i hope he would survive through cancer

no one is arguing about the graphics, you get smarter with every post!
why is it that one of the primary defense of the game is that, "if you dont love it, you dont know games." people like different types of games. people have feelings about all types of games. i personally didn't like doom3, thought there was room for a lot of improvement. does that mean i dont know games? no. if you're going to defend doom3, do it on a mature and intelligent level at least. dont just say that 'the game rules, you're all teenagers and dont know anything' and expect that defense to really hold any sand at all.
maybe its a bit farfetched to expect great graphics and great gameplay. i guess i'm just spoiled by old school games where gameplay mattered more than story. call me old school

I think you misunderstood the point of the Mario comment. Take Mario Sunshine for example. Sure, the graphics are much better than those of the original, but they also added a load of new gameplay possibilities with the water cannon thingy (I think this was sunshine...I haven't played a Mario game since Mario 64).
And let me say again: I LIKE THE GAME. It's fun. Attack someone who thinks it sucks, not someone who is enjoying it.

LOL, that cracked me up. Also, you shouldn't have to turn up your brightness and stuff, your monitor should be properly calibrated and DOOM3 will run as it's supposed to. I like the 'r_gamma @ 1.3' but if you have trouble with the gamma try this or higher.
Obviously you don't like the darkness gameplay mechanic, too bad you bought the game huh?

The attention to detail in the visuals are just amazing and that is what's got me playing until 1 AM each night. Having read the book "Masters Of Doom" I would say that this is the game that these boys wanted to make since day 1 of Id Software. I congratulate them on a graphical tour de force.

I remember loving doom (and doom2 and wolf3d) because of all the multitudes of "realistic" monsters that you could kill at one time. Blowing imps up with a shotgun was just good clean fun
Chainsawing pink guys was also just good clean fun. Being able to see all this because the levels were lit was also good clean fun.Fastforward to 2004. Doom3 just doesn't do it for me. EDIT: there are a bunch of reasons. Gamespot review sums most of my problems up nicely + a few more
