I have looked all over for a way to get my soundcards to work in Vista. I downloaded the newest XP drivers and installed them in XP SP2 compatibility mode and my soundcards still won't work. I hate having to boot into XP to get any recording done. My soundcards are below...

M-Audio 2496 Audiophile
M-Audio Delta 44
M-Audio Delta 66

Thanks in advance for your help. Just trying to get some recording done in Vista to try things out and I thought I would post here as a last resort.

You using 64 bit vista?
 
I should of said that in my first post, but I'm using 32-bit Vista Business currently.
 
Do you have proper drivers for the cards? I wouldn't worry so much about the dual boot config. The good thing about that is you can have your XP system totally optimized for audio recording.;) I think without drivers your kinds outa luck. Alot of guys have the same issue as manufacturers are playing catch up to get the Vista drivers to market. Big waiting game.
 
It just royally sucks because I want to do an apples to apples comparison with audio between XP and Vista. I guess for the time being, I'll just boot into XP whenever I want to do some recording. The good news is that my on-board Realtek sound works in Vista...so at least I can listen to my iTunes:)

I've got all four sound cards working in XP. I actually like my Klipsch Promedia's 2.1's better for just listening to music, but my m-audio speakers are better for recording and mixing. The klipsch really cut out some of the overall sound and I don't like that very much...so I have both set's of speakers hooked up to my computer and use them for different things. I definitely need a bigger desk though. I am seriously out of room. I have four speakers, two monitors, a direct box and my old cassette four-track on my desk currently. What I'm probably going to have to do is get a long flat piece of wood and build two things to hold it up and just use that I guess. Most computer desks I see just suck big time. I don't want a bunch of shelfs and drawers. All I want is one small drawer and a big flat surface. I have a separate table for my mixing board.
 
I have a large corner desk with large cubbies above and below the table. This is where I have some of my audio gear. On the right hand side the gear looks like it was built into the desk adn the left hand side I want to use for Rack components. I have a seperate table for my mixer aswell it's big one. I want a small one for building into the desk on the left side. If I was you I would get one of the larger corner desks with lots of space and draws and cupboards becasue you can put what ever gear you want in there and they are great for DAW's I think I might even buy another one so I have a large "U" shape for my DAW...later on that is...
 
Anyone?? I guess I can write m-audio and bitch at them. Someone on another forum told me that my cards would work with the XP drivers, but he never bothered to explain how:( Oh well. I guess I'll be using XP to record.
 
No, they won't work with XP drivers. Well ok I can't say that for 100% fact since I haven't tried it, however given the architecture changes in Vista I give it a virtually zero chance of working. You need new drivers, your only option is to have M-Audio provide them.
 
I think he meant use XP drivers in XP to record and leave Vista out of it until they come up with better drivers.

No, what I'm trying to do is use the XP drivers in Vista...but I don't think it is possible.

Of course none of my DAW software works in vista so I don't know why i'm worried about it...

You should try Reaper. It works in Vista. Now I just need to get drivers for my soundcards.
 
DAW software is available. Cakewalk Sonar 6.2 has Vista support, and 64-bit support for XP and Vista, including a hybrid loader to let it load 32-bit effects DLLs.

As for drivers I will repeat: There is almost a zero chance that XP audio drivers will work in Vista. Microsoft made significant changes to the audio model. Most of it is in user mode now, rather than the kernel. This necessitates drastically different drivers.

I realize that Microsoft made significant changes to things. I was just hoping that somehow the XP drivers would work, but I guess I'm out of luck currently. Oh well. I'll just boot into XP to do any recording.
 
I tried to load the XP drivers in Vista. They would load, but no sound would come out of my soundcards. Just wanted to report back with my findings. I hope that m-audio releases Vista drivers soon. I really want to try it out.
