This is merely a request. I am looking for a document retention policy ( i.e. how long emails and crap are kept and what is to be done with old hard drives etc.) for a class assignment. Google has been very un helpful and was wondering if any of you out there have one from thier company I can look over....if it isnt sensitive data that is. Thanks folks.
 
I do beleive the SEC in conjuctino with SOX mandates a document retention period.....

I've got a pile of policies, but I'm not able to share them with anyone.
 
Duh I dont need how to's . I need an existing companies document retention policy. The searh link you gave me is the terms I have been using. Anyone else ??
 
Most companies probably wouldn't give that info out. If they would, you probably wont find it on the net. You might actually have to pick up the phone and call some HR people.

Of course...they might also think you're social engineering them if they're smart. :D
 
Document retention is very dependant on the industry you are in. I work for a financial as the network admin, we have a document retention policy, all I did when writing it was copy the NCUA regulations and our state regulations and paste them into word and dressed it up to look pretty. Check your local, state, and federal regs, copy what they say and you will be safe.
 
I work in the Data Center department for a branch office of a large insurance company that was recently under investigation and the current policy is to retain ALL electronic data. That means we can't re-use backup tapes or hard drives. That applies worldwide too.
This means that whenever we want to re-image a PC,e we need to take out the old drive, put it in a locked storage center and put in a brand new drive. We can't even defrag the drives! Every day we use brand new tapes (3 of em) and store all the tapes in the same storage center.

All of this cuz of that danm Spitzer!!! :mad: oops did I give the company away :rolleyes:
