My friend just sent me an email asking me a question on using 2 monitors. Heres his email he sent me.

" I got a new monitor 21 inch widescreen. Is there a switch or some way to hook up 2 monitors to my pc so I can use the old one for older games? I only need 1 monitor on at a time, but I don't want to be switching monitors all the time. I guess I could just chnage cables when I play games. But I was hoping you might know of a switch or something. I'd go ask Radio Shack if it wasn't 100 miles away. It is actually 100 miles from here."

Im not really up on the dual monitor thing so I was wondering if any one out there could help us out with this. I think hes still using my old x800xt ATI card if that gives any ideas. Thanks Jeremy
 
Gefen makes a large collection of switches and extenders ... but they are not cheap.
 
Most graphics cards have 2 or more outputs on them. Connect each monitor to one of the outputs and power on the display you want to use as needed. Other wise you need a KVM switch which can be expensive if you are using DVI output. The VGA versions are a lot cheaper, but they could reduce the video quality depending on how well the display handels analog input.

I connect a second display to my laptop or netbook all of the time and it works fine.
