I am thinking of getting my wife a digital picture frame. Most of what I can find appear to be the same TFT LCD rebranded over and over. Does anyone have any shopping hints for these?

I would, since I use Vista, look for a frame that supports Windows SideShow.
 
Quite a few of the 8" and almost all of the 7" ones have a "widescreen" LCD. So you'll either be getting black bars beside all of your pics, or you'll have to crop them all to fit. Make sure you see 4:3 in the specs if this may concern you.

Most won't "random shuffle" the pics. They will play in alphabetical order.

Some have internal memory. Some don't support USB drives. Make sure you (or your giftee) has a card reader to match the options on your frame.

I've been shopping around for these for a couple months now. I plan on buying one for the parents for christmas. From what I've gathered from user reviews. All of the Philips models come out on top.

I bought this one (PF800M) from newegg for my parents for Christmas. It hasn't come in yet.

don't do it.

I bought my wife one from bed bath and beyond, one from target, one from sears, one from best buy, and 2 different ones from wal mart.

All of them sucked. I bought one for my wife, and started the long chain of returns that you see above, and it ended in disappointment.
