Hi,
I just got a new system, and the motherboard is the DFI LANParty nF3 UT 250 S754. The board seems to be fine, but when I do a fresh install of Windows XP Pro, it doesn't find the WD SATA 74GB Raptor hard drive. Everything is connected as it should be, so I don't understand what could be the problem.
I have been playing with the motherboard for the past 3 days, and nothing seems to work. Here is what I have done since day one:
1. I start the computer after reading (3 times) the motherboard manual that I download from the DFI site. The first thing I did was set the BIOS based on the manuals suggested settings. The hard drive is shown on the BIOS. I saved and exit BIOS, computer reboots. I forget to press F10 and F6 to get in the Raid Tools, Driver and Controller setup. Windows XP Pro setup starts, so I go ahead with the install. Windows formats hard drive, and installs (blue screen install not full install) on that drive. System reboots and goes into windows install again. Hmmm, something isn't right as it doesn't continue to full install. It takes me back to to the screen where I pick a hard drive to install to, but it says I have already installed windows on this drive. I remove the Windows CD and reboot. System boot info shows with all drives detected, but it also gives me an error. It says BBS or BSS while booting or something like that.
2. I reformat the hard drive and reboot, and this time press F10 for the Raid Tools. I'm not sure what to do in this setup, so I just add hard drive to the list on the right. Continue to windows install and press F6 to install Raid driver and controller. I press S to use the Raid diskette that came with the motherboard, and install the driver, and press S again to install the controller. I forget to press enter to continue windows install. I reboot by mistake, and Windows starts setup. I figure the Raid driver and controller are still there, so I install Windows. I remove the CD so I don't get Windows setup again. System tells me to re-insert CD, I'm at Windows setup again
3. I get a diskette from WD web site to check if the hard drive is ok. It is, so I format it. I press F10 and add the hard drive to the right, than press F6 to install raid driver and controller. This time I press enter to continue Windows install, but it tells me there isn't a hard drive to install to. I reboot to the BIOS to check if the hard drive is there, but both DVD RW Rom and hard drive are gone. I auto detects both drives, they show up. I save and reboot into the BIOS, it detects DVD RW Rom, but not hard drive. I auto detect again, its there.
4. I use fail safe to reset BIOS, I try to install Windows again. Nope I use Windows 98 setup diskette, no go. Now when I reboot, doesn't even go into Windows XP Pro setup, it just stops at "Verifying DMI Pool Data............"
Whats the problem, what can I do to fix it?
