Whenever this puppy gets a dedicated video card in it, and hopefully an x1600 rather than the x1400 everybody is saying, it'll be the dog that I buy. I can wait a few more weeks though if that is what it takes (let me get a chance for my tax refund and the next paycheck or two from the Army). I really wouldn't mind a WUXGA option rather than the WSXGA+ too. Maybe that'll come soon too.

Anybody else any opitions about this laptop? I think it is pretty perfect laptop I've been looking for anyway. It's going to be cheaper than all the others I've looked at, and it's customizable, and hopefully Dell won't fuck it up for me. :)
 
yeah seems like another winner to me. my bro just got his 6000 in yesterday, I told him to wait, but he got a really good deal, for 1,100.00.

but he doesnt like the wuxga screen, lol but i fixed it for him. with really big fonts..

im waiting to see what dict video ends up in it...would be nice if the x1600 is in it.

Guess we will have to wait and see...but thats the hard part, waiting,lol
 
Yea it will be a few more weeks for the dedicated card. But I willing to bet if we see an X1600 it will be a slower 128MB Version and the fact that it very expesnive. I agree 15.4+DC+X1600 is a great balance. I just wish dell would try and trim the weight. 6LBS is a bit heavy :D
 
6lbs isn't heavy. I'm used to carrying a nearly 8lb M16A2 on the hands, and oh quite a bit more of weight on the back. ;) I'm more concerned with battery life and the graphics card.
 
looks like its the same process as e1705 and it doesn't have an upgradeable video card...

for gaming i say wait for a new 6000 or for e1505 to get a new vid card

Well, I just ordered one today, two week waiting period though. Hopefully they'll come out with the dedicated graphics card within that time and I can call them up and just have it built with it.

For $1150 this is what I got (1400-250 rebate)

CoreDuo 1.83 (T2400)
1GB (2x512)
120GB 5400RPM
DVD Writer
WSXGA+ w/trubrite
Intel Wireless
Added the $10 option for the Backup CD.
1Yrs Warranty.

Praying the graphics will be a drop in part.

I think its a pretty good deal, all the upgrades were reasonable, I usuually look at newegg to see if i can take teh standard stuff, sell it, then buy the upgrades instead of from dell.
Everything was pretty close, edge goes to newegg, but the 120GB hard drive was a $250 part from newegg, they get ya on the SATA. It was only $185 on dell, I suppose I could have sold the 40GB that it came with, but it would have been a wash.

Closest model I can find with these specs is that lower model Acer, but I saw the screen on it and didn't care for it. I had an 8600 with the WSXGA+ with no Trubrite and it was pretty decent. Would have liked to have the 9600 pro that was in my 8600 though...
 
I think it's best to wait for the 2nd gen of dual core chips to arrive. I spoke to an IBM rep and they're shying away from 1st gen because they know 2nd gen is right around the corner. I'd hate to invest in something that will be eclipsed in a few months by a better product. Technology changes fast enough. If need something now, single-core laptop prices are really falling and there are some good deals around.

you can spend your whole life waiting....hehe...I am going to miss out on all the dual core craze, becuase my northwood 3.0 is doing just fine. I'll probablly jump on a quad core when then are released
