I'm currently using a Cisco 1130AG access point. It does a serviceable job handling my wireless needs. However, its on loan, and they are over $500+ if I want to buy one. I'm looking for a cheaper access point that can provide solid performance.

I don't want a router, I already have a Cisco 871 that is handling all those needs. I need just a regular access point.

Wireless N is not important, I'm not streaming anything heavy duty.

The only things I can find are either:
1. Cheap consumer junk

or

2. Super Expensive.

Is there anything around $150-$200 that is better than consumer grade, but not quite as hardcore as a Cisco AP?

How about HP Procurve Wireless Access Point 10ag, it's about $175 and is a dual-band device with decent features, though obviously lacking a lot of what your Cisco AP can do. I haven't used these particular APs, but I've been very happy with the Procurve switches I've deployed and their service and warranty is excellent.

Some other options: NetGear makes some stuff for this market segment; their 'blue metal box' ProSafe designs have been fairly good to me failure-wise, though their warranty, feature set and web interfaces aren't as good as HP's IME. Cisco also has the 500 series that will fit your needs and isn't too far out of budget.

Thanks! I had briefly looked at the HP unit. I didn't spend much time, but I took a second look and it looks pretty decent overall. Wish I had one I could try out before buying. I also started looking at the Cisco (Linksys) WAP-2000. It looks good as well, though the warranty on the HP unit is better.
