Cursor moving on its own

On my laptop. Cursor will move on its own.. in small increments with or without a mouse connected to it. Do trackpads go bad? I haven't used it in a long time. Maybe it's just striving for attention? I dunno.

Anyone have experience with this on their own notebook?

It isn't too annoying.. but I guess I can't do any GIMPin or paint for a while :-/
 
open paint and hold down the click button and let it do its thing. maybe its trying to send you a message.

Anyway, is there anyone messing with you? At my last job, I plugged in my V450 Nano into a coworkers desktop. The receiver is the nano one so it is very small. Not more than 24 hours later from doing it from the first time, he was in the middle of doing a fresh install because he couldn't figure out what the issue was. He was one of those people where if 1 tiny thing is weird, he looks and looks for whatever he can to figure it out.

I was sitting at my desk in another cube with the mouse upside down just randomly movin the mouse around a little bit. Just to fuck with him.

Yea...That was fun.
 
What direction does it move? Is it sporadic? Does it move right when you take your fingers off it? Or will you walk away, come back an hour later with the cursor somewhere else?
 
some times if there is grit under the edges of a track pad it will cause issues with a cursor. also I've noticed that some touch points have a similar issue. if you use it long enough you will find yourself trying to force it to stay put. for touch point the cure is just take your finger off of the nipple and let it finish crawling. for touch pad clean under the edges of the the bezel that cover the pad . I find that a fine edge blade does the trick

It only moves in an irregular pattern to the upper right and very slowly. I'm thinking it would take like an hour for it to reach the upper left corner. It was constant... but now it's sorta calmed down.. I guess it's taking a break from annoying me.

It's my home computer and I'm the only one who uses it. I've only upgraded the RAM which is near the trackpad, but that was a few months back and it's only occurring recently.
 
Take it apart and blast a solid 3 cans of dust off in there.

If that fails, you may want to make a fire and try to smoke the gremlins out!
