CPU-Z Voltages Changing

I just downloaded CPU-Z and tried it out.

It recognized my Opteron 170 with no problems, but I noticed my core voltage changing from 1.376 to 1.360 to 1.392 to 1.376, and kept cycling through those voltages. This also seemed to be changing my core clock as well.

Is this normal? What could the problem be?
 
Voltages are never constant...nothing is really... speed/voltage all fluctuate.
 
Fluctuations probably/inaccuracy. The Core Speed is always changing +/- 1Mhz on my Opty 165 and the voltage core also seems to be fluctuating a bt
 
It's definitely not Cool N' Quiet...I haven't installed it.

I figured that it might just be some normal fluctuations in the supply. Everything else seems really stable...just paranoid I guess :rolleyes:

Well Opterons are known to be able to run on low voltages :)

+/- .005v spread isn't to bad. Shouldn't affect anything. A change of a couple of mhz is fine as well. If you find you cpu down to 5x multiplier than cool and quiet is activated.
 
What is the normal voltage for the 170 Opteron anyway? I have the motherboard set to auto, maybe fixing it to a set voltage would stabilize it a bit more?

Any more ideas?
 
1.340 is the stock voltage I do believe

Also, I think the fluctuations are normal, I've noticed the same with my system and never thought anything of it.

It should default to 1.35. Try manual setting it to 1.35v and see if the voltage stops fluctuating.
 
amd dual cores are either 1.35 or 1.3v.. most of the opterons are the former for some unknown reason ;)

also, setting it to auto won't help fix the fact that you should never trust on-board voltage sensors
 
I was about to post this very same question - my 4800+ does the same thing - it rotates anywhere from like 1.35 to 1.40
 
If it aint a multimeter, dont put any stock in it other than as a ballpark until you prove its accurate with a multimeter.
 
same thing occurs on my setup (Epox 9nPA+Ultra w/Opteron 170). Vcore goes up and down slightly, and if I monitor the mhz of each core with the utility from AMD, and jack up the refresh rate - I see the total speed fluctuate up and down by about 25mhz. (2400, 2375, 2400, 2400, 2400, 2425, 2400 2400, 2400, 2425, 2400, 2375, etc. etc :) )
