Cpu z Freezing my pc.

I was wondering has cpu z every frozen your pc? It has been freezing mine, after my oc has been stable for months, this morning i open cpu z to check something and it freezes my pc.

I thought it was my oc going bad so i ran prime linx, memtest everything. But every 2 out of 3 times i ever opened cpu z it would freeze my pc? what gives.

Q3: CPU-Z causes a general protection fault, or freezes my system, or causes a blue screen.
A: edit cpuz.ini, and replace :

DMI=1
Sensor=1
SMBus=1
Display=1

with :

DMI=0
Sensor=0
SMBus=0
Display=0

I have done that from their website as they said and its the display which is causing it to freeze.. What does this mean?
 
what kind of motherboard is it?
 
Asus p6t deluxe v2. I talked to the guy he thinks its a graphics card driver, i was wondering if this has happen to anyone before.
 
It could be the driver for the motherboard itself as well, you know the little chip that senses all the temps and stuff on the motherboard is supported by that.

winbond(or some brand) sensor IC
SMBUS (low level serial bus used by low level/low speed motherboard resources)

or there could be some short ont he motherboard which is only noticed when the sensor IC tries to do something. have you tried other sensor programs?
 
I think it's a known issue in the latest nvidia drivers.
 
Does it freeze your PC when you are not overclocking? If it does not, then your overclock is causing some problems that you only notice with that program.

I would do a prime95 and maybe run some sp2004 tests to see if anything happens while they are running. Monitor the temps with coretemp and see how it goes.

Zoson, the whole it is nvidia thing does not make sense. He is not using his GPU when this faults occur. Can you provide a link to the problem?
 
I don't remember exactly where I read it, but I think it tied into the whole 196.75 killing GPU's.
It was something to do with the SMBUS... Which would make perfect sense. When CPUZ goes to read the SMBUS info for the GPU's he locks up.
Just because he's not doing something 3d, doesn't mean he's not using his GPU. In fact, he's using his GPU the entire time.
 
That is interesting at least. It does make some sense in the regard that it is a possibility, but it seems like a shot in the dark to me.
