Correct Install Order

After a reformat, what is the order that you install your sp1, vc drivers, dx, chipset and all that other stuff.

going on a 2 week vacation makes me 4get stuff

I'd say do it in this sequence:
Windows
SP1
Mobo drivers
DirectX
Video Drivers
Additional Video Drivers (Forceware/Catalyst/Omega)
Drivers for all other hardware
Programs/Applications

dx always comes before vc drivers

i would recommend installin vc drivers before dx, when we were working on some machines and updating dx, we had to update some vc drivers to get it to install... just something i would look into

Here's one way I've always used:

Windows
Video drivers
Chipset drivers
Sound Drivers
Extra drivers (modem, Ethernet card)
DirectX (if you have a newer version than that included in Windows)

Make sure this is running sweet before you install the service packs. Then you can install programs.

i read that nvidia chipset drivers need dx9 before you install them, or sound gets screwed.

I'm not entirely sure about my way, but since I have never been able to find an updated bios flash or drivers for my VIA/AMD Irongate hybrid chipset, my install order has been:
windows
SP1(a)
critical updates
DX9.0b
forceware
and everything else

I've used this install order for as long as I can remember... no troubles with it at all... (both Intel & AMD systems with ATI, NVidia & Matrox graphics cards and Intel, NVidia, Via, SiS or ALI chipsets).

Windows.
Chipset Drivers.
NIC Drivers.
Service Packs & Critical Updates
DirectX
Video
Sound

I'd say:

Servicepack before anything else. Slipstreaming is a good idea.
Then the Chipset, and IDE drivers.
Then what eveyone else has reccomended.
