Anyone have suggestions for a corporate im system?

I'm just looking for something basic, client -server and closed, that is, does not connect to the outside internet.

i've looked at jaber, but frankely its a bit too complex to setup and get running, plus i need something with logging (server side) and a gui server interface.. thanks
 
Trillian pro 3 has a built in network chat...I don't have a servers set up to log things, nor do I use it, so I can't help you much with it. The free version may have it, have a look on the official website.
 
Check out WiredRed's Epop. It's pretty damn good stuff. Closed if you want it to be, open if you want it to be. Client-server, or client-client. Chat sessions, file transfers, encryption (including AES), server-side logging, etc.

We've been using it since the first version came out.

we use jabber, but we have a little over 10000 employees so we needed something manageable.
 
While a little off-topic,

My company recently was handed a project by HP to maintain their partner portal platform and we went down there for 2 weeks for a knowledge transfer. I realised that almost all the HP staffs were using MSN, with the ocassional Trillian popping up.

This kinda took me by surprise as most big MNCs tend to bar their staff from using IM. I've worked at HBO and they have a similar policy of not allowing any kind of Instant Messaging to take place.

They may have been running their own internal MSN chat server and not allowing connections to the outside. I know of several large companies that do this so that it is easy for employees to communicate small, simple reqeusts.
 
I have jabber in use at our ITS department... we have 58000 employees in 6 countries that use it... its fantastic once you get it setup... we have also configured the gateways to AIM/Yahoo/MSN on it as well

i tried out Epop, it is reasonablly priced, however, it seems more like email that pops up by itself than IM. not quote what i'm looking for.

re: jabber, yes its free, and can support way more people than we need (about 15) but it is diffcult to configure (somewhat) and after trying about 10 different servers i can't find a way to easilly log all ims in a format which is easy to review.
 
Epop is basically like the classic style of ICQ. That's the best way I'd describe it. It's instant messaging, it's just not in a dialogue box-format like AIM.

If you're looking for something along the lines of AIM, Epop is not it.
