Converting a partition to linux.

Hey guys I've got 2 hard drives currently in a dual boot configuration (win 98 and XP pro). I want to change the 98 drive to linux. Is there like an uninstall win 98? Do I need to? Could I just delete all the system files? Also when I install linux will it recognize that there is another operating system and not mess with the boot up? Thanks for the help, this is my main computer and i'm not trying to mess this up.
 
Assuming XP is loaded on the primary drive, then all you'll need to do is format the secondary drive (unformat it, I should say) and then edit the boot.ini file so it doesn't give you the choice of Win98.

Once you load Linux on the free space, you'll be given a bootloader with a choice of XP or Linux.
 
No need to 'remove' the 98 install. When you install Linux just delete the partition & reformat that space for windows & you'll be fine.
