Connection problem

Alright, today for no reason my internet connect at school drops off and I can't get it back for the life of me. Windows says it's connected to the hub at 100mbps, but I can't get on the internet or browse the network. The ip it gave me is really weird, nothing like anyone else on the floor hub. What could be going on?
 
What is the IP address that it gives you? If it's something beginning with 169.254.x.x, then that means that your computer cannot find the DHCP server. Try releasing and renewing the IP address to see if you can get a valid one.

(Go to the command prompt and type "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew")
 
try going to a command prompt and

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew_all

if you get an IP other than 168.254.x.x then you are probably good to go. If you dont you could try statically assigning an IP to your PC as a temporary solution, just be aware that if you are using an IP that someone else is using, you are going to get IP conflict errors in windows as will the other person whose IP you "borrowed" :D
 
I'd recommend not statically assigning an IP - that will only cause more problems in the long run.

You say you're connected to a hub - and then the hub is connected to the campus wall jack? Try attaching directly to the wall jack and see if that works. If not, is there another wall jack in your room (such as one for your roommate) that you could try using? Otherwise, lug your computer down the hall and try to jack into a friend's connection - see if it's your computer or the jack. If it's the jack, call your campus' network support team and ask for help.
