Well, all of today I've been having comp problems. I decided to break it down, dust off everything, and finnaly plug my floppy in. It booted fine and everything worked fine at that point. Then I downloaded driver cleaner to install some new nforce2 drivers. I ran the nforce chipset cleaner and then it all started. I rebooted and it only got to the first bios screen with my CPU speed and then froze. I reset CMOS and it got to the screen which says "Windows was not shut down correctly." or something like that. I tried safe mode and the regular boot option and both just give me a blank screen. After that it still freezes at the first screen unless I reset cmos. Anyone have any suggestions? I really just want to format, but if I go into BIOS and change the boot order so my XP CD is first, then it doesn't boot correctly unless I reset CMOS.

Will if boot if floppy is first on the list? If so, grab an old Win 98 floppy and manually format, and try that way...

I had a similar problem. I had just built my new rig and had Windows on and had everything set up. I had partitioned my HDD into an OS partition and a media partition.
I was installing programs and applications and finally had Windows customized to my liking for the time being. The next day I decided to install FireFox and play around with it. I ended up concluding that it wasn't as convenient as IE6 (my school's network only supports IE, regular Mozilla, and Mac), and so I uninstalled it.
Well, maybe I was clicking too quickly, 'cause with FireFox went a bunch of program files. None of my programs worked after I uninstalled Firefox. Norton wouldn't even load and I'd get a pop-up warning as soon as I hit the logon screen.
I finally decided to reformat and start over again. I made BIOS boot from my XP CD but I forgot it would just boot into Windows. So somehow I corrupted my Windows copy so that Windows couldn't even boot, and had to go into Setup. From there it went as normal, except the SATA driver on the floppy became corrupt and I had to use my old rig to copy it from the CD-ROM.
I dunno if that helps ya, 'cause I'm not entirely sure what your problem is or what happens when you try to boot regularly with and without the CD.

1. Turn computer off
2. Unscrew your side panel
3. Expose all your wires, and chips, and boards
4. Take a can of soda, black type (pepsi, coke) works best.
5. Bend soda 90 degrees, so that the liquid pours over the motherboard and etc.
6. Put can back, and put computer back.
7. Hit Power
8. Enjoy
Or just take a hammer to the cpu .. That usually works too

I've had that a few times. I'd turn on my computer and there would be no video output, but everything would turn on and run. I've resolved it by reseating RAM or the video card, and then messing around with unplugging the PSU, or flipping its switch, etc.Timdog said:No, it still goes to the windows was not shut down correctly screen and then turns blank with any of the options. This is strange... I reseated my RAM in the configuration I usually use with 1 stick of 256mb corsair in slot 1, a stick of 512mb Kingston in slot 2, and a stick of 512mb crucial in slot 3. I switched the two 512mb sticks around and now the Comp boots and gives me a loud beep every 3 seconds or so. Does this mean anything? I looked in the manual and there isn't anything about BIOS warning sounds.
EDIT: Fixed it! Turned out to be the kingston stick was bad. No matter, I popped in my extra corsair and let her fly. ^_^
