I don't overclock. I have a a 3.0e Pentium 4 prescott. its so fucking hot. i have a huge copper heatsink, Its like cooltech or something, the really good silent 36$ a year ago one... my computer shuts down during random things. for example I own two music cd's... i know pathetic, but I tried ripping(edit: using windows media player) the first one, 3 times my computer shut down, then 1 once my second one, which just decided not to bother finishing. the proc temps measures about 70*C-75*C the inside of my case goes from 45*C-50*C My computer sometimes shuts down randomly during guild wars and also during CS:S. its not a WINDOWS IS SHUTTING DOWN shutdown its a boom, black screen, ABIT Is7g2 mobo (i think thats the numbers) radeon 9800 pro video card, 420 watts with 2 hdds and 1 cd-rom, I had a dvd rom but thought it was power issue so i removed it, still does it. I can't really think of anything else to say... any ideas what the fuck is wrong with my computer?

Holy shit that is hot! I am used to AMD, and I know that prescotts are known for the high temps, but I think that you may be operating ouside of a safe temp zone. I have to believe that this is what is causing the problems that you are having. I would try re-seating the heatsink with the proper amount of thermal compound (paper thin layer). See if this helps your temps and in turn your problems....

Your case ambient is too high. Suggestion, add stronger fans or add more fans.

Or else take the side of the case off =).

2 90mm(i think) on the back out take
4 of the 80mm on front and 1 on side intake

i'm going to get some thermal paste and reapply...

could it be possible that the chip is messed up or that the mother boards temp sensors are off?

Although I believe that Abit is better than most, it is a definite possibility (probability might be more accurate) that your mobos temp sensors are off...

I would still try to re-seat the heatsink...
