Ya know back when I was a computer junkie and didn't have a real job I would be on the copy the game bandwagon. But now. I understand the work and effort gone in to production of a title. I don't bother with hacking or cracking or any of that crap. I buy games I plan to play. This generally means I won't be getting Doom3 when it hits the shelves <unless of course Fry's does par normal and sells it for like 37 then it is MINE.> but I will get the game eventually. I am going to read the comp sites I go to to get an idea what real people think of the game as released. If their systems can play it. If my system would choke on it. <I doubt it but better to know ahead of time> then make my purchased based on released information.

My comment about downloading Doom 3 was deleted under the guise that I was somehow talking about something illegal; this is simply not the case. It is not illegal to download software from the internet; it is, however, very illegal to upload (viewed as 'distributing') any copyrighted material unless authorized by the copyright holder. (I am fully aware that this makes zero sense, but I don't make the laws) It is illegal to modify copyrighted material without the copyright holder's consent, and it is illegal to defeat copy-protection (thanks to the DMCA). Show me one case, (1), where someone had a law suite brought against them for downloading anything off the internet; every case from the RIAA, MPAA, or anyone else for that matter has been against uploaders. That's the facts.
Three days before the release date, July 31st, Doom 3 was available on the net. Many of the people who downloaded it will buy it. If not for moral issues, then for the multiplayer aspects. Not all 'downloaders' are bad people; many people downloaded the game to make sure they'd even be able to play it on their computer. If they didn't do this check then they could have ended up with a game they couldn't return, and regretfully be out $45+ (or more specifically $47.99 from outpost.com, for this topic's sake).
Don't daemonize downloading and point the finger before you see it from both perspectives. There are bad apples in any bushel.
I'm not condoning illegal file trading, I'm just trying to give a different point of view.

It's a rule here that you can't talk about downloading copyrighted material, without the explicit permission of the copyright-holder. Don't talk about it.

Hahah, that's ridiculous. People pay these extortionate prices so they can have it on the day of its release, especially since you can pick it up at every major retailer for about the same price earlier. :rolleyes:
 
I just got the same e-mail. Cancelled that sucker... I'll be going to Best Buy on the way home today. It's funny how every retailer in the country (including Wal-Mart of all places) got the game today, yet CompUSA, a COMPUTER RETAILER didn't get it in. :eek:
 
I just drove down yesterday (8/3/04) to the BB on Sweetwater and 59 South and sat and played on the DOOM3 demo computer for about an hour (crappy Sony VAIO w/9200 128M on a 3G HT P4 and 512Mb RAM :rolleyes: ) before I PM'd BB's price to Microcenter's and walked out of there for $50 after tax. :D

Haahah check this out guys, I didn't want to loose out on my definate copy via compussr, so I wasn't going to cancel it until I had a copy tonight. Well I check my hotmail again and I get a "your product has shipped" email.

That's good. Let's just hope that the game is more scary than the prospect of not having it, eh? :D
 
AHH! So for those of you who read my previous post, you'll know that I cancelled my doom3 preorder at about 9:20 yesterday morning promptly after they tell me it will be on backorder. So I go out to WalMart and get it for $5 cheaper! Wonderful, playin the game and its awesome! However, at 1:30 I get an email from CompUSA telling me that my order was just shipped and right after that another mail telling me:

Though we received your request to cancel your order, we were unable to
process that request before your order shipped. You may refuse delivery and
your account will be credited when the merchandise arrives back in our
warehouse.

Now what is this crap. Telling you in the morning that the product is on backorder and then shipping it that afternoon after being told not to.
Lesson Learned: STAY AWAY FROM COMPUSA!!
 
Funny to see the same thing that happened to me happen to others. I waited all of the 3rd... expecting an email saying that my order had shipped... and I recieved nothing. So on the 4th, I went around my local stores trying to find a copy, and the closest one that I found that had doom3 in stock was about 50 miles away. Before leaving though, I checked my email and there was the email that everyone seems to have recieved, stating that the game was delayed, blah blah blah. I got real pissed off and sent an email to cancel my order.

I left, but some unexpected stuff came up, so I didnt drive the 50 miles to buy it afterall... and when I finaly got home, there was an email saying it had already shipped :confused: . The game is supposed to get to me in about 5 hours... so we shall see what happens.

$43.99 yesterday and today only (picked mine up already :D ) but still it's the lowest price I've seen anywhere.
