I have an HP LJ4, and am looking to replace it with a color laser.

So far, im leaning towards the KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2400W. BUT, im half way tempted to wait 'till black friday and see what kinda deals might come from there.

another BUT........i found an open box special on the KONICA MINOLTA magicolor 2400W for $180 w/ $25shipping. sooooooooooo

what do ya'll think?
 
I know this thread is 3 months old, but I'm curious to what the OP ended up buying.

I snagged a Konica/Minolta Magicolor 2400W today because Fry's had refurbs for $169.99 + shipping. The 2300/2400 series are supposed to be quite good, and there is a new 2500DL model based on the same engine that sells for around $280 - $300 brand new.

About the only downsides I've heard about these is they only come with starter toner (1,500 sheets per color @ 5% page coverage) and that the drum counter is set kind of low. But the carts are easily refillable and the drum counter can be reset very easily and some people end up using the drum 3 to 4 times as long without any quality issues.

So I'm stoked to get my printer. :)
 
So I recieved the Magicolor 2400W and wow... I am IMPRESSED big time. The color quality is outstanding on this thing, at least as far as a color laser is concerned. Very sharp text and graphics and photos aren't too shabby either. :D

My only complaints sofar:

1. This thing is was a pain in the ass to unpack. Tape everywhere, strings to yank out, little yellow clips to remove, etc.

2. Oh my GAWD does this thing suck electricity. I've got those fluorescent lamp bulbs in my light fixture and when this thing is on and warming up or printing they flicker/dim noticeably. Things are going to get interesting in here come summer time when my window AC is on.



So if you're interested in a color laser and don't mind buying a refurb, check out the 2400W refurb units at www.frys.com. I bought mine for $169.99 plus shipping and I think they are still around that price. They go in and out of stock routinely as Fry's appears to be a major clearinghouse for Konica/Minolta refurbished units.

It looks like they have some Magicolor 2430DL refurbs in this week as well. This is basically the same printer as the 2400W but with built in 10/100 networking and PictBridge camera support so you can print directly from your PictBridge enabled camera.
