ive read that the i7's run hot as balls, but my mobo reports my temps to be 48-50C full load

is my mobo a liar or what?

i use a thermalright ultra-120 with the new socket adapter and it seems to kick some major ass atm

stock speeds or the 3.8 that you have in your sig?.. and do you have hyperthreading on? because that seems kinda low if your running something like intel burn test or ortho or prime95..

How exactly are you getting those temperature readings? The most accurate way to get your temps is by using either Core Temp or the latest Real Temp beta. Chances are those programs will show temperatures that are quite a bit higher.

rgr that
i was reading the temps with gigabytes goofy eztune software
got some real temp 2.7 action going and the temps are now 60-66C full load using prime 95 25.2

would HT make it run hotter or cooler? i do run with ht enabled on all the cores

You should be using Real Temp 2.9, not 2.7. I don't know if HT has an effect on temperatures though.

There is a led on the motherboard that is supposed to lite up green at 61c to 80c and red over 80c. I brought my cpu temp up to 79c using prime95 and coretemp. The led never lit up. I would say the board is not reading the cpu temp correctly.

I just tried it again. The cpu led blinks green at 80c but it is supposed to lite up at 60c. The board must be 20c inaccurate.

I read some article about HT and its supposed to run hotter with HT enabled. According to that text a chip with HT enabled do need more voltage to keep stable.

but the 8 cores looks so cool :D

ok, got realtemp 2.9 and there didnt seem to be much difference in that and 2.7 temp wise

ran prime 95 for 8 hours with 2 instances of orthos running and seems stable
core 1 hit the highest temp at 71C
