Center Channel Problem with receiver

I just got a center speaker to see if I can make the voices in movies a little louder in my 2.1 setup. But when I plug it into my denon avr-1612 receiver it sounds distorted. I plugged the speaker into the left channel and it sounds like it works fine.

I reran the Audyssey MultEQ in setup with the eternal mic and it didn't help with the problem.

Here a video of how the audio sounds with just the speaker and sub hooked up.

it's connected through optical to mobo on computer

Check if it's also distorted when playing a DVD or something else with a center channel.

Could be your receiver, could be your soundcard...

It sounds the same when playing a dvd. I tested out the 2 rear surround speaker channels and they sound fine. It's just the center channel that has an issue. I set the receiver to play through the tuner and set to a mode that allows sound to come out of the center speaker and it still has the same issue.

The receiver is a refurbished version so who knows what all was wrong with it originally maybe this was reason and they overlooked it.
