I have a cendyne brand cd burner that tends to crash that I got from Staples for 20 dollars a year ago, and an old hp 8200 external cd burner drive. The Cendyne drive crashes when it heats up, sometimes when trying to burn a disc too. It won't always read the discs it makes. They work very badly. In the world of hard drives I know of maxtor, seagate and western digital as being the best three hd makers. I am going to have to spend a lot more on a good burner I understand. Probably up to 100 dollars I think. What are the top cdburner makers? From what I know LiteOn is one, I believe TDK is another. I have had a crappy Samsung cdrom drive too which turns me off to Samsung basically. Any other suggestions? Thank you. Lol. The drive works perfectly fine when I hold a 12 inch table fan up to it. And pull out the other dvd drive. And lower it down one level. Definitely seems like a chip/semiconductor issue in my opinion. They should have put a heatsink fan or heatsink. Lol. Or better yet they should have made the chip or something run cooler to begin with.

If your gonna pick up a quality burner pick up a Plextor. If not pick up a LiteOn, TDK and or a Asus in that order.

yeah, i'd second the Plextor comment...

however, NU makes some really decent burners..i recently got a LiteOn combo drives (52x burner and 16x DVD) and it works wonderfully.

hell, for 100.00 i could send you a brand new Sony DVD burner...

cheers,

dave

Sony DVD burners = crappy. The DRU530A is a rebadged Optorite, sucky++/. But the DW-U18A and DRU700A are rebadged Lite-On drives, and are very good.
